To Keep in Mind

To be a great teacher, you need to be in open discovery mode, and on your own constant journey to profound health. There is no other path.

Golf Classes!

The Golf Pilates Connection

Golf Specific Pilates is a method of exercise designed as sport conditioning to align the body, build strength and increase energy. Golf, being an “asymmetrical” sport, creates imbalances in the body which Pilates can counteract. An improved game requires good balance, flexibility, core stability, and mental focus. These important components are promoted in our Golf Specific Pilates training. Since golf is a balance of mental and physical skill, the mind/body approach of Pilates is a good way to get in the practice of connecting the two. Connecting the body and mind will help increase muscle and movement control. This tailored program focuses on developing your mobility, strengthening your stabilizers and maintaining your joint stability and safety while you are golfing, and the complementary gain is the increase in your body’s strength and range of motion.

Golf schools and coaches are including Pilates exercises with their training regime. Golfers Tiger Woods, David Duval, Rocco Mediate, Sean O’Hare and Lee Jansen are all incorporating Pilates into their training.

A swing comes from the core, through the peripheral limbs, powering from the ground up. Golf Specific Pilates focuses on the motions required in a swing, preparing your body for a game played at its highest standard.

March in March

March 23rd, 2011

Hi Everyone!

I’m so happy to be here in the Okanagan–as it tries to be sunny!

AND I am even happier to be part of The Pilates Connection studio, learning the ropes, meeting the fine people that come classes and starting my own rehabilitation to a healthy back and relationship to the strength of my body.

For those of you who are wondering what my role is behind the counter:

I am here to welcome you, help you book classes…here to answer your phone calls, make changes to your schedules, make payments, etc!

Here’s my schedule:

Monday 12pm-4pm

Tuesday 3pm-7pm

Wednesday 12pm-4pm

Thursday 3pm-7pm

And, for those of you who would like to know “the what” about March:

I’m here for a year, from Montreal! I moved there from Armstrong 10 years ago to get my degree in Art History and Painting, which I did, and I’ve been painting and doing freelance design since. I have always been very active playing soccer and hockey, snowboarding and crosscountry skiing. 5 years ago I was hit by a car while on my bicycle and I’ve been burdened with back pain since. I have finally been able to decide that addressing my back pain is my priority, and luckily my best friend Katie (yours truly, Watson) has taken me under her wing–her precise, and driven wing. I am feeling very fortunate to be in this environment and am looking forward to the following months!

Preventative Health

March 21st, 2011

Ok, lets start the topic with, what is your view on preventative health?
I believe if we all kept a health strong body from a young age, we would all have less time later on in life in the health system. I also believe that Pilates is a strong way to keep a healthy body. Good posture can increase not only your physical state of health but can give you a healthy state of mind. The way we hold ourselves is a reflection of how we feel. Have you ever noticed how much happier you feel when you stand tall?

Also as we age it is important to have good strong bones and good balance, both of which can come from Pilates.

Personally if I can spend a little more time now strengthening and preparing my body for the journey ahead, all while having fun might I add, then I’m in for life!

I plan to spend my days here enjoying and being happy inside and out, not fearing what is ahead for me but knowing I am taking care of myself all along the way.

Pilates is my preventative health!

What is yours?
